As web manager on the business transformation team, David Farrell-Shaw, led the marketing and customer services sections of SE. The task was to reduce the number of websites owned by the agency and transfer all valid content, products and services onto a one stop shop – or portal as it became known.

The established a process for migration of websites by creating a top level information architecture sympathetic to the Government Category List. The duplication of services on old sites was simply enormous. When the dust had settled  it was estimated that around £9 million had been saved from the public purse.

The Scottish Development International (SDI) website went through several design changes in the period 2000 to 2008. The bulk of the visual design work was carried out by BBC technologies and latterly Siemens Business Services

As part of the landmark deal, Siemens Business Services acquired BBC Technology Ltd, a commercial subsidiary of the BBC.

Led by Tom White, Managing Director, Siemens Business Services, BBC Technology was renamed Siemens Business Services Media Holdings Ltd.

David Farrell show was responsible for the re-branding project for, lone working SME, Argyll ( formerly Argyll Telecom). At the time the company couldn’t be persuaded to re-brand to their core product Communicare. Long story short…. the company’s website was replaced with a shiny new modern look, all linked via a CRM system using the Zoho range of products.

Scotland – The Official Gateway was an exciting project that brought together the management teams at Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Executive, and Scottish Development International. Studies had shown that much of the traffic to these agency sites had been misdirected. For example Scottish Enterprise held the domain name for scotland.org. Web statistics indicated that the bulk of viewers going to Scotland.org  were looking for information about Scotland and not about Scottish Enterprise.
